Artify Gallery is proud to present our first online exclusive shows, for artists Bence Bakonyi, Katsutoshi Yuasa and Wong Xiang Yi. The solos will showcase works by the respective artists over the years, and reveal subtle patterns in their areas of artistic interest.

Bence Bakonyi’s oeuvre consists of photographic series “Dignity”, “Cognition”  and “we’re all right here…” . His works show a gradual progression from looking within oneself to an expanded interest in the stories found in places visited by the artist.  Bakonyi presents to us a landscape that is familiar and unknown at the same time, marred by tracks and traces from the past. Beneath their contemporary and visually captivating aesthetics, exist deeper layers of interpretations.

Katsutoshi Yuasa’s work often features beautiful sceneries from nature, with a harsh reality underneath the surface. Images in his vivid woodcut prints address questions triggered by traumatic events. His series ”Flux” reveals an elegiac technique that portrays almost a mournful understanding and perception of man and nature in today’s society.  His next series, “All is Vanity”, visualises the relationship between the subjective memory of the individual and the objective moment of the captured event, depicting shocking images of massacred children.

Wong Xiang Yi ponders on BL (Boy’s Love), Gongbi (fine brushwork), and ink painting. The artist uses ink to depict this sub-culture of female preference to engage with visuals that depict the metrosexual male. Ink and wash lends particularly well to displaying a softness of character and a touch of femininity.
